We follow NHS guidance on how to deal with complaints, which includes giving patients and families a dull and honest explanation when things go wrong and an apology when appropriate.
Even if there had not been a complaint, if we become aware that something has gone wrong with a patient’s care, we must inform the patient (or their carer). This is called a ‘Duty of Candour’.
