Meet the Team

I have been a practice nurse for more than 25 years and came to work for G DOC 12 months ago. During that time I have helped give short term relief to practices throughout the county in a general practice nurse role, respiratory and contraceptive & implant fitting clinics. The practices have been extremely welcoming and grateful for help at times when they were understaffed.

More recently I have been involved in mentoring nurses new to Practice Nursing as part of the G DOC educational project supporting novice practice nurses. This has been extremely valuable and I am pleased that my experience can be put to use supporting and encouraging new nurses in General Practice at a time when recruitment and investment in the future practice nurse workforce is vital.

I am currently involved in a pilot scheme setting up and running a dedicated travel clinic for the Berkeley cluster. With 100 referrals so far in the first 2 weeks, this looks set to be a valuable local service.

I trained as a GP in Gloucester. I was a partner in two city practices and represented Gloucester on the LMC for seven years. In 2008, I set up Gloucester GP Consortium with colleagues in the city and went on to be the medical director of Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, before joining G DOC in 2016. I am a Clinical Associate to the New Care Models programme of NHS England and, until recently, the Care Quality Commission’s advisor on urgent care. I am a non-executive director of the MDDUS.

Before becoming a GP, I trained in emergency medicine and intensive care, with membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. I have an MA in medical law and ethics and have studied transformational change in healthcare at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

I joined G DOC in June 2017 and am enjoying every moment of it! I cover our more rural localities which includes the Forest of Dean, Stroud and Berkeley Vale, both North and South Cotswolds and Tewkesbury. My work is varied, interesting and busy. I am constantly bowled over by the passion and dedication of those working in primary care in the county and I am totally committed in providing excellent services on behalf of our member practices.

I bring a number of useful skills to G DOC. Prior to coming to the NHS I spent over 15 years working for the BBC. During this time my work ranged from programme making, to being the Change Management Lead on a national change programme.

My NHS experience includes working directly for GP’s as a Practice Manager to supporting localities as part of Practice Based Commissioning and spending seven years in Public Health.

I am the GDoc Service Lead for Choice+. I joined the company in September 2015 to manage the implementation of the Choice+ service across Gloucestershire.

Following its initial roll-out in the Gloucester and Cheltenham localities, I worked closely with colleagues at the Gloucester Health Access Centre to establish a network of 21 urgent care centres or “hubs”. At its peak the Choice+ service offered in excess of 7800 additional primary care appointments a month to support local practices.

Prior to G DOC I spent 38 years working for the Ministry of Defence in a variety of different roles. Initially the emphasis was on IT, with work in mainframe operations, programming and installation management. Latterly, I moved into project manager with six years experience gained during public service procurements. I secured multi-million pound cost savings achieved by re-competing outsourced HR services through the effective management of a multi-disciplinary project team.

I started working at GDoc in February 2017 and have really enjoyed working with the team here and have been given the opportunity to be involved in many different projects such as Choice+, Improved Access models and GP Streaming in ED to name a few. My role here at G DOC is always kept interesting and motivating.

I have many years of experience working in Administration roles throughout Gloucestershire and have qualifications in both Business Administration and Health & Social Care. I have a heart and a passion for both Administration and the Health Care industry and am continuously growing in skill and experience here at GDoc.

I joined G DOC in September 2016 and I manage a fantastic, devoted team of thirteen specialist nurses. Our work ranges from supporting practices to cover staff shortages, mentoring and providing training courses from update days to degree courses. Our aim is to standardise the level of nursing knowledge across the county in specialist areas such as diabetes, respiratory conditions, cardio-vascular disease and sexual health.

I have been qualified for over 15 years and my career path ranges from Neurology, practice nursing and more recently diabetes specialist nursing. I feel very privileged to be part of G DOC especially at a time when the NHS have published there “10 point plan for general practice nursing” as this evidence will enable our nursing team to drive this forward over the coming years.

I have been working for G DOC as a CVD Specialist Nurse for approximately 18 months.

I have worked at a number of surgeries around the county supporting them with their annual CVD reviews and NHS health checks.

My background is in Coronary Care nursing and more recently in Cardiac Rehabilitation.

I am passionate about health promotion in both primary and secondary prevention and can often be heard on my soap box ranting about food marketing and labelling!

I enjoy the opportunity to work within a Specialist field and although there is a tendency to feel like ‘the new girl’, I have always been welcomed by the busy practice teams.
